THREATENED ANTELOPES

Threatened savanna antelopes such as the western hartebeest and the korrigum are now on the brink of disappearing across West and Central Africa. Their shrinking and fragmented populations act as clear warning signals of failing ecosystems and highlight where urgent, targeted conservation action is needed.

As large grazers dependent on open grass habitats within the grassland–woodland savanna mosaic, these antelopes are especially sensitive to landscape change.

GOAL:

Updated status of hartebeest and korrigum accross the range countries.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Review of status and knowledge gap identification
  • Gathering missing knowledge from the field
  • Update of species profiles (Western hartebeest and korrigum)
  • Update of country profiles (Senegal, Benin, Cameroon)
